At Connective, our Outreach Workers play a vital role in helping individuals build stability, independence, and community connection. They meet people where they are, and walk beside them as they navigate barriers, set goals, and work toward meaningful change.
Whether it’s helping someone find housing, access health care, or simply offering a consistent and compassionate presence, Outreach Workers are at the heart of Connective’s mission to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all. For those looking to build a nonprofit career focused on compassionate care, there’s no better place to start. We are currently hiring Outreach Workers to join our team.
About the Role
Our Outreach Workers provide individualized support to service users referred by Community Living British Columbia (CLBC).
This can mean researching resources, coordinating supports, helping service users build routines, find housing, access education or employment, and connect with community services. No two days look the same, and that’s part of what makes this work so dynamic. It is also an excellent way to develop professional growth in a hands-on nonprofit career.
Hear from Our Team
When asked what advice they would share with future Outreach Workers, our team emphasized adaptability, empathy, and self-awareness.
“I entered this field aware that many people fight silent battles without support. It is meaningful to stand beside them as they navigate life’s toughest moments while providing compassionate care." – Ranvir
“The most rewarding part of the job is feeling like your work is making a positive impact on those you support. The growth and learning opportunities this job offers excites me the most and contributes to professional growth in my nonprofit career.” – Barry
"Hearing service users tell me they feel safer, or seeing someone connect with housing, medical care, or family after weeks of trying, is deeply meaningful. Being part of those turning points and knowing the little actions I take can change someone’s day or life trajectory, is what it’s all" – Onely
What Our Team Would Share with Future Team Members
We asked members of our Outreach team to share what brought them to this work, what they’ve learned, and what makes it meaningful.
"No situations are ever the same, being flexible and creative in your approach is key. The most important qualities for someone considering this work are empathy, good listening skills, and the ability to meet people where they are without judgment while delivering compassionate care." – Anonymous
"Flexibility is crucial! Being organized but adaptable is essential as paperwork and relationship-building happen side-by-side!" – Onely
"Something people might not realize about this role is how deeply relational it is. It’s not just about connecting people to resources; it is about building trust with individuals who may have every reason not to trust." – Ranvir
