About the Bursary
Connective is proud to announce the Pamela Smith-Gander Educational Bursary 2025, two $2,500 awards for two students pursuing studies in social justice at the University of British Columbia (UBC). We’re accepting applications from September 8 to October 10, 2025.
This Bursary honours Pamela Smith-Gander who served on Connective’s Board of Directors for 27 years. Pamela was a dedicated social justice lawyer and advocate for equity and community. Reflecting her values and legacy, this award will give preference to applicants who are single parents.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be enrolled in a post-secondary program in social justice at UBC, self-disclose financial need, and share the impact of this bursary on their financial needs, why they chose to pursue a career in social justice, and how they hope to make an impact through their career and/or community involvement.
How to Apply
Students must submit the bursary application form, and a personal statement (up to 750 words) to awards@connective.ca.
Use of Funds
Funds will be awarded directly to the student’s UBC account. They will cover any outstanding tuition, with any remaining balance carried forward to the next semester.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, with the final recipient chosen by Pamela. The recipient will be notified by phone and email.
