About Housing First
Housing First Residence provides safe, secure housing to adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and who may require mental health or substance use supports. The residence is located in Whitehorse and has 16 low-barrier units.
Housing First is staffed 24/7 and operates in partnership with the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN), which provides onsite cultural supports and programming for Indigenous individuals.
Residents also have access to trauma-informed, solution-focused, strengths-based, and culturally appropriate services. Supports include:
- Life-skill development
- Goal setting and community inclusion
- Mental health and wellness supports
- Support for independent living
- Harm Reduction resources and knowledge
Through continuous support and advocacy, Housing First works to provide immediate and low-barrier housing with supports to assist residents to enhance their independence, quality of life, and community connections.
