About the Northern BC Therapeutic Community

The Northern BC Therapeutic Community (NBCTC) offers an ideal setting away from the stressors of the world for 30 residents to build community while focusing on recovery from substance use challenges. At this 150+ acre property, 30km south-west of Prince George, residents will receive safe, secure housing and 24/7 person-centered wraparound services that are tailored to their self-identified needs and goals. Connective staff will provide meal programs, life and employment skills training, and health and wellness support.

In this safe and secure environment, participants will have the opportunity to reconnect with nature and engage in agricultural activities – caring for animals, harvesting, beekeeping, and more – while reclaiming and rebuilding their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Using community itself as the primary vehicle for change, residents are encouraged to share experiences, grow within a supportive setting, and develop the tools they need to sustain long-term recovery.

There are no fees for service. Stays at the program will range from six to twelve months and be broken into three distinct phases – orientation, transformation, and reunification. Aftercare services are also provided by a transition counselor and are available up to a year after completing the program.

FAQ

What application considerations are there?

  • The community is only able to manage low-to-moderate withdrawal symptoms. Anyone experiencing more extreme symptoms will be required to visit a medical detox facility before accessing NBCTC.
  • Potential applicants must have the capacity to participate fully in the program (cognitively and physically).
  • The community is not currently accessible in wheelchairs.
  • The success of this model requires a commitment to a long-term stay.
  • Applicants must be of adult legal age in B.C. – 19 years.
  • Applicants must have approved Medical Services and medication coverage. Out-of-province coverage may not directly align with BC coverage.
  • Successful applicants must bring a two-week supply (or fax prescriptions before they arrive) for any medication(s) ordered by a physician.

Does the program cost money?

Daily fees for program participants are based on per-diem funding from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. This funding model is only accessed for the days a resident lives at NBCTC. Residents will be informed if this funding model changes.

There are no outside fees and no security or damage deposits needed.
