About Vancouver Island Therapeutic Community
Vancouver Island Therapeutic Community (VITC) is a 20-bed supportive recovery program that provides a safe and healing environment for adult men who are interested in community-based recovery from problematic substance use. Residents stay in double-occupancy rooms, and have access to goal planning, counselling, employment and educational services, as well as home-cooked meals.
VITC takes a participative, group-based approach, meaning the responsibility for the daily running of the community is shared amongst the residents and staff. Service users also learn relationship skills and support each other to maintain healthy and sober lifestyles. Residents can stay in the program for up to one-year, as we recognize that long-term programming can produce enhanced recovery outcomes. When appropriate, residents are encouraged to stay in the program until they are ready for independent living.
VITC is strategically located in central Nanaimo and is close to several amenities. The program is also partnered with other organizations in the community to offer additional programming for residents.
