About Rent Bank
The Nanaimo Rent Bank provides interest-free loans to help low-to-moderate income renters in the Nanaimo region who are experiencing challenges with paying their rent and/or essential utilities (gas/hydro).
Our program’s loan threshold is set at $3,000, providing eligible applicants with funds paid directly to landlords or utility providers. Loan repayment begins 2-3 months after approval, with flexible repayment terms ranging from 24 to 36 months—though renters can choose to repay early.
Once approved, loan processing takes approximately 1-2 weeks.
Communities Served
The Nanaimo Rent Bank supports people in the following regions:
- Regional District of Nanaimo: Lantzville, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Electoral Areas A-H.
- Alberni-Clayquot Regional District: Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet, and Electoral Areas A-F.
